Nephcure
On May 5th, Jet Food Stores hosted their annual Golf Classic at Twin City Country Club in Sandersville, Georgia. The event benefits NephCure Kidney International, the sole organization committed to supporting research seeking a cure for the potentially debilitating kidney disease Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) and Nephrotic Syndrome. Over the past 12 years, this event has generated more than $350,000 for the NephCure mission since its inception.
This year saw the introduction of the #Selfies4NephCure contest. Participants took “selfies” of themselves at the event and posted them to their social media pages. Jet Foods and NephCure is hoping that this social media awareness campaign will continue long after the golf outing. Anyone can join the fun and help us spread awareness – so take a picture of yourself, and post it with the hashtag #Selfies4NephCure.
NephCure board member Charles Turner is the driving force behind the event. This cause is important to his family and their goal of supporting research to discover and make available better treatments for all families dealing with these kidney conditions.
FSGS and NS are diseases and conditions that know no borders; they can strike anyone, anywhere in the world. Chronic Kidney Disease is recognized globally as a public health problem, with prevalence rates cited as high as 16%; Nephrotic Syndrome is the leading cause of kidney failure in children, and in the United States alone more than 26 million people suffer from some form of kidney disease
Since 2000 NephCure Kidney International has worked to fund research in the hopes of finding a breakthrough for the devastating kidney condition Nephrotic Syndrome. More than a decade later, NephCure continues to champion research, create a community of support for patients living with this chronic, incurable condition, and accelerate treatments and a cure for FSGS and the diseases that cause Nephrotic Syndrome.
